Abstract

This study discusses the historical phenomenon about many people of North Moluccans who migration to Palu Central Sulawesi, especially in the middle of the XX century. Based on this phenomenon, this study there are two main problems; 1) What is the history of the migration of North Maluku Muslim Students to continuous study in Palu in 1955-1969? 2) Why is Palu chosen by Muslim students to study Islam? So, to answer those problems, This research uses a qualitative description method, with historical, sociology, anthropological and educational approaches. The results of the study found; 1) The migration of Muslim students from North Maluku to continuous study in Palu in 1995-1969 AD, divided into 3 periods; The first period in 1955 AD was the migration of 6 students from North Maluku to Palu through the port of Donggala. The second period, in 1963, the migration of 41 people from North Maluku to Palu. The third period; in 1967-1969 their arrival in smaller numbers even some left for Palu alone. 2) Muslim students chose Palu as a place to study due to several factors, First; The impact of Sayyid Idrus's da'wah in the midst of the people of North Maluku and Palu, Second; charisma of Sayyid Idrus, Third; Madrasah Alkhairaat curriculum that combine modern and traditional learning system. Fourth; socialization and motivation from Alkhairaat Palu alumni in North Maluku to their students to continue and inprove studies in Al-Khairaat. Fifth. The role of the government and community leaders as well as parents encouraged their children to continue their studies to foster the younger generation as well as the development of Islam and education in North Maluku.
